Fringe Gets Second Season from FOX

Hit Sci-Fi Show Finishes First Season with Appearance by Leonard Nimoy

Fans of Fringe can relax. FOX has given the sci-fi/fantasy series a second season.

Fringe is a weekly paranormal thriller starring Anna Torv, Joshua Jackson and John Noble as an FBI team that investigates mysterious and terrifying events that are related to an upcoming war between parallel universes.
Fringe Gets Second Season from FOX

The announcement is not a huge surprise, because Fringe has been one of just a small number of new shows that premiered last fall to become ratings hits.

J.J. Abrams is the co-creator and executive producer of Fringe. Abrams' past work includes the TV series Lost and Alias. He is also the director of the new Star Trek film opening this weekend.

Leonard Nimoy will be appearing in the season finale as Dr. William Bell, a mysterious figure who may be behind many of the strange events on Fringe. Nimoy is most famous for playing the character Spock on Star Trek, and he is reprising the role in Abrams' current movie.

Fringe revolves around the investigations of FBI Agent Olivia Dunham (Torv) and her Fringe science team. The team consists of Dr. Walter Bishop (Noble), who once worked with Bell in the area of fringe science, as well as his son Peter (Jackson) and agents Charlie Francis (Kirk Acevedo) and Astrid Farnsworth (Jasika Nicole). The Fringe division is overseen by Phillip Broyles (Lance Reddick).

Over the course of the season the team has been exploring a strange series of events referred to as "the Pattern" by the team. These investigations have included aspects of fringe science such as teleportation, telepathy, psychokinesis, reanimation, and the creation of hybrid monsters.

Olivia, Peter, and Walter form a first response team to theses strange events, which are somehow connected to the corporation Massive Dynamics (headed by the previously unseen Bell) and a bioterrorist group known as ZFT.

The overall arc of the show includes many clues about how Dr. Bishop was involved in the origin of these events before he was confined to a mental institution, and the fact that Agent Dunham has a deeper connection to the mystery than previously disclosed.

Jensen Ackles: Behind the Scenes

Now famous for his starring role as Dean Winchester in the hit series Supernatural, Jensen Ackles has been around for many years. This 29 year old actor began his career back in 1996 after a childhood of assorted modeling

gigs. Long before he started hunting ghosts and other strange creatures in Supernatural, this handsome actor was a heartthrob on Days of Our Lives, as well as many other series.

Born Jensen Ross Ackles in 1978, he grew up in Texas as a relatively normal child, playing lacrosse and baseball and fighting with his siblings, an older brother and younger sister. His future plans were originally to study sports medicine and to be a physical therapist before the acting bug bit him.

With a history of childhood modeling, Ackles headed for Los Angeles and really got into his acting at the age of 18. He appeared as a guest on several popular TV shows of the time, including Sweet Valley High and Cybill before getting a part Days of Our Lives where he played Eric Brady and won a Daytime Emmy Award for his performance.

Not satisfied with his success as a soap opera star, Ackles didn't stop there. In subsequent years, he landed parts in Dawson's Creek, the canceled Still Life, and was cast to play a lead role in Tru Calling, but he turned the job down to appear on the hit series Smallville, as Lana Lang's boyfriend, Jason Teague, in 2004.

Now best known for his character, Dean, on Supernatural, who fights dark creatures such as demons, vampires and werewolves among others, Ackles has had his brushes with the paranormal before. Back in 2001, he had a guest role on the supernatural series, Dark Angel, which turned into a recurring part in the second season. On top of this, he was also a main character for a time on Smallville, a series about the early life of Superman.

Jensen Ackles career doesn't end with TV series. He has also appeared in several films, with more to come in the future. In 2004, he was given a small part in The Plight of Clownana, a short film, and he starred in 2005´s Devour, a little known horror flick.

Why Jensen Ackles is the Most Underrated and Sexiest Person in the World

Many men have graced the cover of People magazine as the sexiest man alive. One young man deserves that title and his name in Jensen Ross Ackles. Jensen is twenty eight years old and is a wonderful actor and a great person. His fans know him best from the hit

CW series, Supernatural that airs on Thursday nights at nine p.m.

Jensen Ackles grew up in Texas with his parents and siblings, he is one of three children. Jensen is young, vibrant, charismatic and a beautiful human being. He spent his childhood and teen years as a fashion model, modeling for the top fashions in the industry. In 1996 he made a big decision and gave up his dreams of earning a degree in sports medicine. He decided to focus on his acting career and made several appearances on shows such as Cybill, Sweet Valley High, and Days of Our lives. Days of Our Lives earned him a Daytime Emmy Award for outstanding young actor in a drama series.

After Days of Our Lives, Jensen auditioned for the lead role of Clark Kent on Smallville. The role was given to another actor, Tom Welling. Jensen did make an appearance on the show, Smallville, in 2004 as a regular character. He played the role of Jason Teague who was the love interest of Lana Lang. At the end of the season in 2005, Jensen was offered a much bigger role as one of the stars of a new show, Supernatural. Jensen is now in his second season as lead character Dean Winchester on Supernatural. He stars along side Jared Padaleki, playing the older brother role/protector/ghost hunter. The two characters are "hunters" who travel accross the country in an effort to wipe out demons, angry spirits, or anything of a Supernatural threat.

Loved-up Joshua Jackson reveals impact Diane has had on his life

Two-and-a-half years into his relationship with Diane Kruger, Joshua Jackson is still completely in love.

And his passion for the Germany-born beauty means he takes Diane into account when it comes to all aspects of his life.

As Diane's partner the former Dawson's Creek actor, who starred in the soap from 1998 to 2003, didn't just have his own future to consider when he accepted a role on TV sci-fi series Fringe. "I'm part of a couple now, so it's not just my decision any more," the hunky 30-year-old revealed. "To ask someone to move with me to New York is a big deal."

It's not the first time Vancouver-born Joshua has underlined the 32-year-old blonde's influence. "I want to be a better man because I want to always see that look in her eyes when she looks at me. I want to be the man that deserves that love," he revealed in a recent video interview.

"She's wonderful, she's kind, she's loving. She's forgiving when I am a moron and not forgiving when I don't deserve to be forgiven," he adds. "There are no amount of good words."

josh jackson says about himself & diane

Joshua Jackson got to work filming Fringe in NYC yesterday. As the show starts winding down for the season, Josh can look forward spending more quality time with Diane. He has often expressed his warm feelings toward his girlfriend, and in a recent interview he continued to spout his love for her and made fun of himself for being so intense. Here's more:

  • On what he enjoys about his relationship: "The daily joys, looking in her eyes, seeing her smile. More eloquent men than me have described the beauties of love but I don't think it really translates well into words. I like feeling like I do every day."

Josh is clearly head over heels for Diane — he has a lot more to say it about, plus more photos, so just read more.

  • On Diane: "She's wonderful and she's kind and she's loving and she's forgiving when I'm a moron, and not forgiving when I don't deserve to be forgiven, and pushes me in all the best possible ways and is inspiring and tough and smart and funny and no amount of good words . . . I want to be a better man because I want to always see that look in her eyes when she looks at me. I want to be the man that deserves that love."
  • On their relationship: "I'm pretty in love with her. It's gross. [...] Everything you find obnoxious about couples when you are single is all of a sudden acceptable. Like, I am the most annoying guy. We talk about it all the time like oh my God I would just never want to spend any time with us."

TV Review: SUPERNATURAL - SEASON FOUR - 'It's a Terrible Life'

I love the alternate universe episodes. Seeing the characters we know so out of character always makes you smile. For Dean (Jensen Ackles) and Sam (Jared Padalecki) seeing them in the roles in “It’s a Terrible Life” was even more to the extreme given the history they have and that whole, you know, demon hunting thing.

Dean is the douche of a manager inside any corporate office and Sam’s the nice guy of the office but a lowly pee-on in the corporate world. Sam begins to see dreams of his reality and Dean is beginning to see things as well affecting the office.

But something is happening inside the illusion beyond just Dean and Sam not knowing who they are or their past, but something where employees after a meeting with HR are oddly affected and begin to kill themselves. And there appears to be a ghost or some sort of other-worldly force at work here (of course, duh, it’s SUPERNATURAL
While the “let’s show our characters in an alternate reality” is a staple of good TV for decades, I loved that they made something happening inside the alternate reality that’s also kooky as well so not only was it just the fact they are unable to remember their pasts but they have a purpose and along the way learn who they really are.

Plus, how can you not love the GHOST HUNTERS INTERNATIONAL/MYTH BUSTERS rip-off on the Internet including the bit about the Winchester Bros sucking major assage.

Turns out the ghost inside the alternate reality was the owner of the building from years past who shows up when the economy turns south – the first time during the Great Depression and now in modern times. However, this still doesn’t explain why the brothers can’t remember their past even as Sam tries to explain to Dean that the life they are leading is not the reality they live in – both started working at the office three weeks ago both with reasons as to why they joined.

Ah ha but instead of a demon, it was a new angel, Zacharia, Castiel’s boss. It was a test by the angels in order to see if Dean still had it in him to be the hunter he is in order to fight the upcoming battle against Lilith and the demons of hell as they continue to unlock the gates of hell to bring on the apocalypse.

The hook of the angels rather than the demons creating the fantasy world wasn’t as much of a shock as it was a pleasant surprise as it fit in perfectly with the breakdown Dean had at the end of last episode. And the angels attempts to rebuild his self-confidence in their own unique way. I also enjoyed that Zacharia for the first time of any of the angels showered Dean with positive reinforcement something he desperately needed.

Where we go from here it looks as if Sam and Lilith have a date with destiny and that, for sure, should be extremely interesting.

Supernatural: The Great Sam vs. Dean Debate

Despite being addicted to Supernatural since its premiere, I wasn't involved in the show's online fan community until season 3.  I was surprised to find just how dedicated and knowledgeable the fans are, and I'm still amazed at how much discussion takes place after every episode.  Supernatural viewers are a vocal bunch, and they're certainly not afraid to speak up when they dislike a plot twist or new character.  I'm sure we all remember the great controversy known as Rubela-Gate '07, just to name one example.

No matter what crazy demonic forces the Winchesters face, fans never seem to tire of debating whether Sam or Dean is the better character.  The Sam vs. Dean debates can be rather brutal, and much virtual blood has been spilled as viewers have raged back and forth arguing the merits of the two brothers.  As someone who loves both characters equally, I have to ask, can't we all just get along?

For some reason, it seems that the Sam vs. Dean debates have intensified in season 4.  This could be due to Dean's expanded role in the Supernatural mythology, which has given Jensen Ackles more to do this year.  The instant it was revealed that Dean was pulled from Hell by an angel, he's played a big role in the show's ongoing story arc.  Meanwhile, Sam's descent into darkness has been talked about more than it's actually been seen, and he even spent one episode almost entirely off screen.  This upset some Sammy-lovers, as did the controversial argument that he might be considered a rapist due to his supposed dalliance with Ruby.

Of course, just because Sam fans are angry doesn't mean Dean addicts are satisfied.  I've often heard complaints that Dean is written as being too stupid, which is an argument I've always found rather silly.  Fans also got upset when a recent episode implied that Dean might be a dick, which forced creator Eric Kripke to release a statement explaining his intentions.  The latest point of contention seems to be that Sam has been lying to his brother about various things since he returned from Hell.  This has given Dean-lovers another reason to rail against Sammy, which has just added more fuel to the fire.

I think it's fine for people to prefer one brother over the other, and I certainly encourage speaking up if a character or plot line is being written poorly.  That being said, can't we set aside the competitive nonsense?  I don't have a problem with people disliking a certain character, but if you're a true fan of Supernatural it seems that you should at least like both Winchester brothers.  If not, how can you stand to watch the show?

In my opinion, a well-written television series should present characters who are flawed.  It's a fact that humans occasionally make terrible decisions.  We lie, we cheat, we veer left when we should veer right, we keep secrets, and we often make terrible mistakes.  Any series that doesn't imbue its characters with these very human foibles isn't worth watching.  The thing that makes Supernatural so great is that the Winchesters are just like us.  They aren't perfect little robots who always do the right thing, which means it's okay to get angry at them when they do something completely stupid.  Unfortunately, some fans choose to cast judgment on the characters every time a poor decision is made, which isn't healthy for anyone.

The other reality fans need to consider is that Supernatural is a television show.  Just like with any series, there are going to be times when one character is focused on more than another, and there may be episodes where your personal favorite doesn't have a thing to do.  That's one of the things viewers have to handle with any show that lasts for multiple seasons.  I'd love it if Chuck Bass could be the focal point of every Gossip Girl episode, but then it wouldn't be the same show.  I feel the folks behind Supernatural do a great job at balancing the arcs of both characters, and I'm sure neither Jensen or Jared has ever complained about not having enough screen time.

I hate for this to come off as a rant against the fans, as that's not my intention.  I'm just tired of the negativity.  It's great to debate plot twists and controversial decisions made by certain characters, but once the arguments turn nasty it only upsets people.  Supernatural is an amazing series with two amazingly well-written, fully fleshed out characters at its core.  If you want to argue that particular point, maybe you're watching the wrong show.

Joshua Jackson goes from boy to man

Joshua Jackson is happy to be leaving his Dawson Creek days behind him to become a leading man on Sky1's spooky US drama Fringe.

"I grew out of my leading boy days," he joked in Beverly Hills after helping to announce the nominees for 2009's People's Choice Awards.

Josh explained: "It's good. It's the natural progression of things."

"I've played those roles in film so that's less intimidating to me than the difficulties of television - which is creating a character that lives over the course of well, God willing, 100 stories or however long it is."

The JJ Abrams show is already winning a loyal fan base in America, UK viewers are fast catching up on the show which sees Josh investigate aspects of fringe science, such as telepathy and invisibility.

Josh joked that he's feeling his age when he compares his Dawson days to shooting now: "What you can achieve on television now, and I sound like an ancient man when I say these things, but what you can do on TV now is worlds away from what we could even think of doing 10 years ago."

"To be around the guys that do it at the highest level and do it the best, it's a lot of fun."

EXCL: Kerr Smith Talks My Bloody Valentine 3-D

Source:Ryan Rotten, Managing Editor
October 11, 2008

At the Screamfest after party for Trick 'r Treat, I had a moment to get chatty with actor Kerr Smith (The Forsaken) co-star of Patrick Lussier's My Bloody Valentine 3-D. In the remake of George Mihalka's slasher film of the same name (sans the "3-D"), Smith plays Axel Palmer, sheriff of the town known as Harmony.

Smith told me Lussier's film is very different from the '81 original, except for "Harry Warden, the miner, and a couple of other characters in the film, but that's really about it. It's a brand new movie."

When I informed him that an official MPAA rating was in (it's rated R), the actor grinned. "It's going to be a hard R," he promises. "There's a lot of blood, man. A lot of killing. It's scary. What I love about this film - because when you do a lot of thrillers it's a crapshoot, some people phone it in and whatever - but no one phoned it in on this one. Everybody did a great job. Patrick [Lussier] had a terrific vision. He knew every scene and he helped make the actors make it a compelling story." That was a plus consider the 3-D process during principal photography process was slow, he adds. "It's really interesting to watch two cameras working at 90-degree angles from one another. It's very interesting and a new wave that's going to catch on. There are a lot of movies that are going to be 3-D. I love 2-D movies, but to go to a three-dimensional movie is going to be an experience."

Bloody Valentine also stars Jaime King (Sin City) and Jensen Ackles who Smith had worked alongside briefly in Dawson's Creek. "It was a pleasure to work with him again. Jensen's a cool cat, man. He's tall, formal and just a fun guy to hang out with." He says they had a bit of fun taunting Ackles' Supernatural co-star who was off on another slasher redo. "We were calling Jared [Padalecki] - because he was shooting [Friday the 13th] in Texas when we were shooting in Pittsburgh - and Jensen was telling him, You know our movie is better than yours, right?"

Horror fans will soon find out if that's the truth when My Bloody Valentine 3-D opens in theaters on January 16th, a nearly a month before Platinum Dunes releases Friday the 13th on February 13th

A New "Supernatural" Big Bad

Oh, don't worry, the Winchesters are tough. They can take it. Looks like Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean Winchester (Jensen Ackles) will be facing a new big bad during Supernatural's November sweeps. Entertainment Weekly'sThe X-Files, Angel, Alias, Reaper, among many others) will be playing a demon named Alastair. EW.com says the character's first air-date is November 13. (Note that the press release for the CW's November sweeps we linked to earlier gave no details for a Novemer 13th episode of Supernatural. According to epguides.com, the Nov. 13th episode is "Hell's Angels," the one listed for November 20th on the press release).

The character description for Alastair describes him as a "calm and composed demon with a placid smile that belies his simmering sadism and evil. He's one of the top demons in Hell. He's electrifyingly powerful.
Michael Ausiello let drop some Supernatural casting news. Mark Rolston (
" Ausiello says an inside source on the show revealed that Alastair has some sort of connection to Lilith, the demon who once held Dean's hell contract and is now trying to bring about the end of the world. "He knows Lilith from Hell, but it's unclear exactly which of them is the big Big Bad -- or if it's even one of them."

The Bros. Winchester already have a lot on their plate. A warrior angel, Castiel (Misha Collins) has stirred things up, revealing that he pulled Dean out of hell, and that Sam and Dean have to stop the apocalypse. There are family secrets and conflicts. Sam and Dean were recently faced with the spirits of some of the people they couldn't save, in addition to a variety of classic horror movie monsters, a flesh-eating creature called a rugaru, and thanks to time travel, their family's oldest and worst enemy, the Yellow-Eyed Demon.

And that was just within the first five episodes of the season.

Anyone else excited to see what happens next?

Last night's 'Fringe': Where is the cow? And other thoughts

Since I’m in the mood to do some post-game analysis on Fox shows, here are few quick thoughts on last night’s “Fringe.” There's a poll below if you just want to cut to the chase.

The good:

  • I liked this episode better than last week’s, but that's not an unqualified endorsement, because last week's was an unholy mess. This one seemed less convoluted and somewhat more coherent, and there were some nice character moments. Last week, I was considering not watching the show any more. This week's episode made me much more likely to keep an eye on it, though I have yet to be won over.
  • Speaking of the characters, John Noble is simply fantastic as Walter Bishop. Despite the show’s other ongoing problems (and there are still quite a few), he’s the main reason I’ll keep watching. Seeing him deliver lines like “Am I required to keep him alive?” and “I think it’s time for some intercranial penetration” is time well spent.
I really enjoyed the scene in the coffee shop between Walter and his son, Peter (Joshua Jackson). When they get their banter on, “Fringe” stops taking itself so dreadfully seriously and is actually kind of fun. more

JOSHUA JACKSON -

Actor JOSHUA JACKSON was left with a bloody nose after a dangerous stunt on his new U.S. TV show sent him rushing to the emergency room.
The former
Dawson's Creek star plays the son of an eccentric scientist in new series, Fringe.
However, his return to the small screen was shortlived when he had to be taken to hospital after a copper wire was shoved up his nose for a scene, hitting a vein and jeopardising his role.
But he's convinced the show will be a smash, telling the National Enquirer, "I can now say that I have literally put my blood into this show

Katie Holmes Reunited with Ex-Boyfriend Joshua Jackson

Atlanta, GA 9/10/2008 04:33 PM GMT (FINDITT)

Katie Holmes has reportedly been reunited with ex-boyfriend Joshua Jackson. Sources say Jackson was worried about Holmes’ health as he thought she had begun looking “skinny and depressed.”

Jackson allegedly surprised Holmes with a visit to her Broadway rehearsals. “Katie has been looking skinny and depressed and, like any concerned friend, rather than do nothing Joshua wanted to check everything was OK,” says an insider. “They haven’t spoken in a while and, naturally, he was worried.”

“So he just decided to drop by. It was really sweet, he just turned up so unexpectedly with a bunch of flowers and said: ‘Hello stranger.’ Katie was shocked, but so happy to see him. It was a wonderful surprise. She gave him such a big hug,” added the source.

Holmes, who is married to Tom Cruise, and Jackson, who is living with girlfriend Diane Kruger, dated while co-starring on ‘Dawson’s Creek.’ They split in 1998 and Holmes told Rolling Stone that Jackson was her “first love.”

“I fell in love, I had my first love, and it was something so incredible and indescribable that I will treasure it always. And that I feel so fortunate because he's now one of my best friends,” she said of the split.
